Analysis: fashion magazine

FIRST ANALYSIS:



Chelsea Clinton’s face is in front of the header showing that this magazine is well known enough that people can recognise the font. Also, the cell-lines have been placed around her framing her body. Also, the masthead is being the main picture, meaning that the company ‘vogue’ is confident the people will recognise the title even though it is not fully recognised.

The red carpet behind the header suggests that there is going to be interviews/ articles on Celebrities. Additionally, the colour scheme has been kept within two standard colours; black and gold, this is to empathise that this magazine is aimed at females.
An issue date as been placed right underneath the title similar to the first magazine analysis this is very often being used.

On the right side of the front-page the big eye catcher, “120 years”. This is a huge number and it can give the reader an idea that this magazine is well established and popular. Also, the repetition of the word ‘The’ suggests that this magazine is established. Also, the ending of each line ends with the letter‘s’ this can illustrate that this magazine includes a lot of things. Where it says ‘Chelsea Clinton’ there is Gossip/News: Since women like gossip, here come eye catching news, this then illustrates that this magazine is open for women who want news.

Furthermore, on the left side of the front page the number “916” is a really big and eye catching number implying that there are lots of pages related to fashion, it is placed on the left top (third) which emphasis that it is important and also, to catch more attention to the potential audiences. Also, ‘Fashion’ is in a big font and a gold colour which connotes a luxury colour, suggesting that this magazine is amazing. This also then attracts women of all ages since it is the latest trend. In the cover line this magazine uses direct address “you” which attracts the attention of the reader and almost gets them involved by directing the question at the reader.

This cover magazine uses a rhetorical question on the left bottom cover line, this is used to get the reader thinking and also, this attracts more readers as the question answers itself as if you said yes. Additionally, the use of the mid shot for this cover image draws attention to her dress and it is eye catching because of the colour ‘purple’. Purple is stereotypically a female colour therefore, it attracts female readers.


SECOND ANALYSIS:




In this magazine the masthead is placed being the main picture, meaning that the company ‘Vogue’ is confident that people will recognise it even though it is not fully visible. The colour scheme has been kept within 3 standard colours; Pink, black and white. This is to empathise that this magazine is aimed at females. The colour pink is stereotypically a female’s colour; this attracts more potential female readers who have an interest in fashion. 

Also, an issue date is placed just below the title of the magazine; this is where all ‘Vogue’ magazines or fashion magazines place their issue dates. Furthermore, on the right hand side of the front cover page there are Hollywood gossip/ news; since females like to gossip, here comes eye catching news. The magazine is versatile ad is open for woman who want to read about all kinds of new/ the latest gossip.

On the left side of the front cover ‘Summer style’ is in a big font, all in capital letters and also, it is placed on the left third which is seen in most fashion magazines. As well as that it also is an alliteration, which makes it more attractive to look at. Also, the text ‘Fashions most fearless women’ mostly attracts the right type of audience, which are older teenagers. 

Additionally, ‘FAT OR FRICTION?’ is in bold black, which attracts the eye of the reader and also, gets the reader thinking as it is a rhetorical question.
Also, like many magazines; this magazine uses a Barcode placed on the front page however; some magazines may have the barcode at the back of the magazine.

Picture of ‘Scarlett Johansson’ is used to grab the eye of the targeted audience, which would be females that have an interest in fashion. The main front-page image has been placed right in between the page; It has been placed right in between the page. It is also a ¾ shot. Her face is in front of the masthead showing that the magazine is so well known that the audience can recognise the magazine’s title font. Also, the cell lines have been placed around her, framing her body.

  1. These are really detailed analyses of magazine front covers. However, the genre that you need to be researching is music magazines- remember, your research must be directly reflected in your final piece. You need to analyse music magazines of your chosen type of music.
