double-page: Print-screens

I started of with a full white background, then I inserted the image in the double-paged article (the left side, as it wanted).

Furthermore, I made the other side a light grey colour so that it goes with the colour scheming of my magazine. Also, the reason why I never chose a dark grey is because it wouldn't blend in with the white colour next to it. I used the line tool to create a line which divides the picture side and the article side, also it is clear that it is a double-paged spread.

LEFT SIDE OF THE DPS:

Here I included an 'exclusive' text at the top of the left side of the double-paged spread and the bottom as well, this works very effectively and goes with my colour scheming as it is medium grey and black. Also, I've created a quote on the top left side of the dps as it is mostly used in r&b magazine, this then conforms one thing used in a r&b double page spread further on, it is in black which conforms my colour scheming.

Also, the image I chose goes well with the text on the right side of it as it is her name. I've made her name's width long as it wanted empasis on the name, also, the font medium sized because; I wanted it to be clear and noticeable. Also, the text below it is in a smaller font which makes the font above it look superior and, the colour of the 'JADA LOUIS' is the same colour as the two worded text underneath it which is 'The amazing', I made the font colour like that because, I wanted it to stand out.

HEADER OF THE DPS:

Here I created the title 'JADA' by using a newsletter type font, this worked very effectively as I picked really good ones from google images and put them close together to make a word. Also, I wrote a summary of Jada Louis as a artist so it attracts the reader to read on this article, I made this font colour dark red which goes with the font of the 'Jada Louis' on the left side of the double-page spread.

Also, I have a 'QUESTION &ANSWER' text at the to right corner as you can see, this is so that the readers are aware that this article will be an interview with the famous r&b artist Jada Louis.

The text of the double-paged spread was put on the right side, this is because; R&B magazines have their text on the right side always and their image on the left, this is why I have done this.
Also, I started off with a quote and made it red, this is because; I wanted the pull out quotes to be eye catching, the reason i went for this is because; it works very effectively and I saw a lot of R&B magazine and some of them use it so, therefore; I put it into place. Also, I put another pull-out quote in the middle of the article, when the artist 'Jada Louis' was answering one of her questions, this was very effective as you can see below (a zoomed in shot).
PULL-OUT (STARTED OFF WITH A QUOTE FROM 'JADA LOUIS')

PULL-OUT (MIDDLE)

Furthermore, as you can see here I added a 'PHOTOGRAPHY AND ARTICLE BY: SUMAYA MOHAMUD' which is me, this works well as it looks realistic. Also, I put the page number '41' on the right side of the double-page spread, and I put another page number on the other side which is on the left side (40).

Final chose for DPS:
Original photo
Flipped the image the other way round
I have flipped the image the other way round, this because; I wanted the image on the left side of the double-paged article, this is because all r&b magazines have the image one the left side of the page, so I wanted to conform that 'rule'. Flipping it the other way round worked very successfully as you can see on the top right image.

WITH THE 'QUICK SELECTION TOOL' ONLY.
As you can see in this picture above, I used the 'QUICK SELECTION TOOL' to crop the image out of the background. However, as you can see there is some rough looking area's in the outlier of the image. It doesn't look like it is part of the background like it doesn't look like she was taken with that background. Therefore, I then used the 'polygonal lasso tool' to make it look more straight and and part of the background, also, to make the 'picture being part of the background' possible I zoomed in so much and then blurred out the outlier of the image to make it look one with the background.

'Quick selection tool' and 'Polygonal lasso tool' used in the image:

I made the background white and used the 'Quick selection tool' to delete parts of the layer this is because, I wanted to get the image alone and crop her out of the background as the original background isn't appropriate for my genre which is r&b. Also, I used the Polygonal Lasso tool to clear out any faults or any off bits that made the picture look fake and looked as if it was cropped out, I wanted to go for this look because, I wanted the picture to be part of the background, like their one. Also, I wanted it to look almost professional.

Furthermore, I brightened this image to make it look clear, as you can see on the right, this look is more effective and makes her 'shine'.

contents: Print screens

Firstly, the background of this contents page is light grey, however, in the middle it is a little darker, I like this as it works very effectively when everything comes together. The middle being darker makes the centre in more focus and makes the readers get more attracted to the middle as it is in a darker shade.

As you can see here, I created a darker shade of grey for the 'T' in the background, if i made it lighter it wouldn't of worked or stood out. Also, I asked potential readers what they thought of it and the majority of people stated that this worked very effectively and it looks more like a R&B contents as magazines like Vibe use this idea, therefore I went for this as majority of the people I asked agreed that it was a good idea, and I personally think it is effective.

I told the model to smile as her teeth is very bright and white, which is within the colour scheme. The image of the model is her posing in a way were she looks superior and a true r&b artist with the clothing.

My contents page title is on the right, here I wanted to make my magazine similar to 'Vibe's contents title layout', which is an existed magazine, therefore, It will then be similar. My potential readers stated that by inputting this idea it makes it look more like a r&b magazine conventionally, also, it looks really good and effectively done. By making the title bold I believe it helps it stand out more and has that wow effect. Also, I included the '1/3' bit right next to the contents title as it shows which issue it is, also, my partner for this production is using 2/3, we thought it would be a very good idea as you can see here;

So, me and kate (my production partner) will be having the 1/3 and the 2/3 as we are creating two different issues.

RIGHT SIDE:

I made the content on the right side because, in all r&b magazines it is applied and I made the colours appropriate as it goes great together also most of the colours are within the colour shemeing, the colours are;
Red (Burgund)
White
&Black

Also, I made the font for 'Features' a different font as it is the sub-title of the page. All the text have different front and colour, if I didn't make the font different and made all the font the same for every text on this page, it would look very dull and not attractive.

Furthermore, I put a "FREE POSTER INSIDE!" near the bottom of the page, this will therefore attract the potential audicence more as it is eye catching and, who doesn't want a poster of a 'favourite' celebrity. For example; people would want a poster of celebs like chris brown or beyonce. And 'Jada Louis' is a successful artist who is popular and is adored, so many people would want a free poster of her.

The reason why I decided to change the image on the right, by turning it so that it is diagonal, this works so much better. Therefore, I asked people whether they thought it was a good idea & they said it is because; "it is less 'square', the two boxes being squares make it boring and plain", so then I inputed the diagonal look as you can see from the right side image and the left one. It work very successfully.

Additionally, I added a signature of the r&b artist as this will make more people want to get the magazine, and be attracted to the poster as having an image of a celebrity will be great (for free), but it will be awesome if i were to include the signature so people will be exited to get this issue, as shown on the left.

On the bottom right side, I included the page number of the contents page and also the issue date. Also, I made the font of the text and the colours different for the two issue date and the page number, this is because I wanted to have a clear separation from the page number and the issue date.
Furthermore, I put the page number on the right side because; In most R&B magazines they have the page number of the contents page of the right side and not the left, so therefore I conformed the things r&b contents pages do.

Final chose for contents page:

CROPPED THE IMAGE; SO THAT IT IS ZOOMED

Furthermore, I used the Polygonal Lasso tool to crop the background out of the image, this tool is very long so it took me 10minutes to do this, also, I then zoomed in a lot and blurred out the outer bit of the image to make it look like she was taken with a white background. Also, I will then move the image a bit to the left, this allows enough space to input the content for the 'features' and the space I will be using to put other things in the contents page, for example; 'FREE POSTER INSIDE'.

The reason why I blurred out the outer bit of the image was to make it look as she is part of the background and will not look as if I pasted her there. Also, I used the paint tool to colour pick the background (grey) and paint in the black bit (as you can see above near the bracelet, the image has a black bit that needs to be erased), so therefore, I erased it out and made the image look like it she was taken with a grey background, this worked very successfully as you can see in the image on the right.

contents: Props

Firstly, I used my straightener to straighten the models hair because; my model has short hair so I wanted to make it a little longer as she'll be wearing a beanie hat.

My model dyed her hair orangey with black this makes her stand out & is something some artists do like for example; Nicki Minaj. When I take the photo it will be outside and the orange will look darker therefore, it will blend in and look amazing.

I used some of the make-up I have already and some of my friend that will be doing the photo-shoots make-up. my model Samira applied her own make-up very effectively and it looked very professional and elegant.
-Foundation
-Mousse foundation
-Blusher
-Brow-liner (brown)
-Mascara
-Concealer
-Vaseline then Lipstick (nude)
-Eyeshadow (brown)
- & more..

I used bracelets as I wanted the model to wear a lot of accessories, I chose this particular bracelets as the black&white are within my colour scheming and the gold&sliver look very eye catching and they all look nice together.
Also, I got my model to wear a variety of ring, mainly gold and silver so that it matches the bracelets.

Here I got the model to wear big hoops as it is worn my many female R&B artists such as, Rihanna. Also, it is eye-catching and gold symbolises royalty.
Furthermore, she wore a gold chain that had three chains in one this was a great idea as chain are more worn by r&b artists. Also, for the jewellery i've used throughout the front cover and contents page, gold is the main colour scheming, as you can see in the front cover.

The clothing/shoes my model is wearing is:

- baggy top (light grey) 'nike air' (red writing).
- jeans (black).
- sporty shoes (black)

The reason why I chose my model to wear a light grey top with red writing is because; my colour scheme has different shades of grey, so this will conform the colour scheming that I went for, also, the red makes it stand out which I like.

Also, I chose the black
jeans because again it is within my colour scheming and the grey and black go together, which is why I made the model wear black shoes (trainers) as you can see below.

FINAL: Changes I've made (front cover)

As you can see here, the designing of the front cover has changed slightly as I wanted to get rid of the red colour, this was because; it never went with anything, the colour yellow is a good eye-catcher and should be the only. However, I've asked potential readers what they thought of the front cover, the majority stated that the colour red had to go as it is too eye-catching and doesn't go with the feel of the magazine, most people suggested that the colour of the models lipstick should replace the red, this is because it gives a clear idea of the colour scheme. Therefore, I applied the colour and the end result ended.

Also, I decided to make the sub-title not within the colour scheme as I wanted it to stand out, I wanted this to be the part which stands out the most as I will this magazine will be starring her 'Jada Louis'. I didn't make the colour of the font too out of the R&B feel but, I made the colour a reasonable colour and stretched the 'JADA LOUIS' out more to make it the centre of attention. Therefore, I asked my potential readers what they thought about the colour change and position change, the majority of people said that it looked really nice as it "stands out more".

how the front cover looks so far:

front cover: Print screens

first of all, I started with the contrasted grey background:

As you can see here, the background is a contrast of grey's, it goes bright as the page goes down. I chose this as it works very effectively and is used by many R&B magazines. Also, it brings out the front image put more than the background being a plain boring colour all the way through.

I chose to put in the 'sky lines' as it makes the magazine feel fuller and more realistic, by making the colour of the title and the sky line the same creates a very neat atmosphere for the masthead. Also, I put a 'new' on the left side of the first letter 'T' this therefore makes the readers fully aware that this magazine issue is new, which therefore might make them want to grab a copy of the magazine.

1) ONLY PAINTED THE "T" IN

I painted the top left side of the letter 'T' so I can place the 'new' there. Also, the colour yellow is very eye catching which is great, it grabs the readers eye to that specific area so therefore, they will be aware that this magazine is a new issue and will be likely to get a copy. As you can clearly see here the yellow bit is formed by:

- Paint (yellow)
To create the triangle, I made it bold and a reasonable size, not too small and not too large.

- Line tool (yellow)
I used this tool to line the inside the "T" bit, so that it isn't messy looking.

2) MADE THE TRIANGLE IN THE "T" NEAT

Furthermore, I created a rectangle to make the out line of the "T" look neat, by doing this I got the colour picker and got the same colour as the background and placed the rectangle so it is in line with the letter "T". Therefore; this created that neat look.

As you can clearly see between then two picture's, the yellow triangle looks way more neat and professional in the first image than the second one.

This is how it looks with the main image and the masthead.

COVER-LINES: (right-side)

As you can see here there is a clear colour scheme displayed for the cover-lines:
- yellow
- white
- red
These colours work very effectively because, it looks very presentable and it looks like what a R&B magazine would put into place, I know that because I looked at many music front covers and many of them have colours like yellow, black, red ect. the usefulness of the colours red and yellow is to stand certain cover-lines out. For example the 'NUMBER 1', '+', '5' and 'STRIKES', these are the cover-lines that I want the readers focusing on more as it will attract potential audiences (people who have an interest in R&B music).

Also, I added a Twitter and Facebook information here to attract and gain more potential readers, this will therefore make the magazine successful because; by the people following on twitter and liking on Facebook, they will be up-to-date with the magazine and everything it has to offer, also, many people use twitter and Facebook, this will be a great way to reach many potential readers (my target audience). Therefore; making this magazine very successful.

ALSO: BOTTOM LEFT CORNER:

Here, I included a barcode for the magazine and a website for this magazine, as well as an issue date. Furthermore, I have used a rectangle around 'TUNE.COM' and 'NOV 14' because, it makes it stand out more. I make it look very professional by making it in line with the barcode and the same size. In addition, I made the two rectangles the exact same size and I used the colours grey and black, the reason I used the colours grey is because; my magazine's colour scheme is:

black
grey (different shades)
red
yellow
& white.

Therefore, this is why I used the colours black and (medium) grey. If I used a colour like purple or green, it wouldn't make sense because; it isn't my colour scheme therefore, I will not use it and only use colour that are in my colour scheming.

COVER-LINES: (left-side)

Again, there is a clear use of effective colour scheme that look good. I included a 'splash' and placed it just below the first cover line on the left-side of the front cover, this is how I planned my front cover however, I made it the second cover-line and not the first cover-line, this works very effectively as it suits the page. Also, '2nd ANNUAL GLOBAL ISSUE' suggests that this magazine issue is very important as it is the '2nd' annual global issue.

Furthermore, I've decided to put the R&B artist 'Jada Louis' in one of my cover-lines as she will be starring in my double-page spread, I thought why not also, the front cover picture is of 'Jada Louis' so it was seen appropriate.

ALSO: BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER:

Similar to my designing for my front cover, I have included a strap line in 'grey', this goes with the colour scheming of the page and look very attractive, as I made the text inside the strap line relevant to the R&B genre.

Also, the font of the first line 'RIDIN' SOLO' is in a 'r&b' type font, I think this because; it gives a r&b feel about it.

The colours black and grey go together, as shown in the right image of the strap line, the colour here works very effectively and looks professional.
