As you can see here, the background is a contrast of grey's, it goes bright as the page goes down. I chose this as it works very effectively and is used by many R&B magazines. Also, it brings out the front image put more than the background being a plain boring colour all the way through.
I chose to put in the 'sky lines' as it makes the magazine feel fuller and more realistic, by making the colour of the title and the sky line the same creates a very neat atmosphere for the masthead. Also, I put a 'new' on the left side of the first letter 'T' this therefore makes the readers fully aware that this magazine issue is new, which therefore might make them want to grab a copy of the magazine.
1) ONLY PAINTED THE "T" IN |
I painted the top left side of the letter 'T' so I can place the 'new' there. Also, the colour yellow is very eye catching which is great, it grabs the readers eye to that specific area so therefore, they will be aware that this magazine is a new issue and will be likely to get a copy. As you can clearly see here the yellow bit is formed by:
- Paint (yellow)
To create the triangle, I made it bold and a reasonable size, not too small and not too large.
- Line tool (yellow)
I used this tool to line the inside the "T" bit, so that it isn't messy looking.
2) MADE THE TRIANGLE IN THE "T" NEAT |
As you can clearly see between then two picture's, the yellow triangle looks way more neat and professional in the first image than the second one.
This is how it looks with the main image and the masthead.

COVER-LINES: (right-side)
- yellow
- white
- red
These colours work very effectively because, it looks very presentable and it looks like what a R&B magazine would put into place, I know that because I looked at many music front covers and many of them have colours like yellow, black, red ect. the usefulness of the colours red and yellow is to stand certain cover-lines out. For example the 'NUMBER 1', '+', '5' and 'STRIKES', these are the cover-lines that I want the readers focusing on more as it will attract potential audiences (people who have an interest in R&B music).
Also, I added a Twitter and Facebook information here to attract and gain more potential readers, this will therefore make the magazine successful because; by the people following on twitter and liking on Facebook, they will be up-to-date with the magazine and everything it has to offer, also, many people use twitter and Facebook, this will be a great way to reach many potential readers (my target audience). Therefore; making this magazine very successful.
ALSO: BOTTOM LEFT CORNER:
Here, I included a barcode for the magazine and a website for this magazine, as well as an issue date. Furthermore, I have used a rectangle around 'TUNE.COM' and 'NOV 14' because, it makes it stand out more. I make it look very professional by making it in line with the barcode and the same size. In addition, I made the two rectangles the exact same size and I used the colours grey and black, the reason I used the colours grey is because; my magazine's colour scheme is:
- black
- grey (different shades)
- red
- yellow
& white.
Therefore, this is why I used the colours black and (medium) grey. If I used a colour like purple or green, it wouldn't make sense because; it isn't my colour scheme therefore, I will not use it and only use colour that are in my colour scheming.
COVER-LINES: (left-side)
Again, there is a clear use of effective colour scheme that look good. I included a 'splash' and placed it just below the first cover line on the left-side of the front cover, this is how I planned my front cover however, I made it the second cover-line and not the first cover-line, this works very effectively as it suits the page. Also, '2nd ANNUAL GLOBAL ISSUE' suggests that this magazine issue is very important as it is the '2nd' annual global issue.
Furthermore, I've decided to put the R&B artist 'Jada Louis' in one of my cover-lines as she will be starring in my double-page spread, I thought why not also, the front cover picture is of 'Jada Louis' so it was seen appropriate.
ALSO: BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER:
Similar to my designing for my front cover, I have included a strap line in 'grey', this goes with the colour scheming of the page and look very attractive, as I made the text inside the strap line relevant to the R&B genre.
Also, the font of the first line 'RIDIN' SOLO' is in a 'r&b' type font, I think this because; it gives a r&b feel about it.
The colours black and grey go together, as shown in the right image of the strap line, the colour here works very effectively and looks professional.
